The Elephant in Art – a Pastels Class
🎉 Happy New Year everyone! 🎨
I have an absolute banger of a class for you this month — the perfect antidote to those January blues…
we’re going to be drawing an ELEPHANT 🐘
This is a first for my classes, but I’ve drawn and painted many smooth-skinned animals before, and elephants call for beautifully different techniques — and I honestly can’t wait to share them with you.
📍 Venue: Upper Sheringham Village Hall, Upper Sheringham
📅 Date: Friday 16th January, 9.30am – 4pm
💷 Price: £75 (includes all materials, a gorgeous lunch, plus refreshments & light bites throughout the day)
What you’ll learn:
- Working exclusively in pastels and pastel pencils to capture the gentle grace and rugged beauty of the elephant
- How to create a striking pastel portrait through the balance of background and subject
- Deep-diving into subtle tonal changes to achieve a realistic finish
- When to soften areas and when to sharpen details for maximum impact
- Using a limited palette to create harmony and cohesion
I am so excited about this one — the reference photo I’ve chosen is simply exquisite and absolutely oozes grace, simplicity and love. We are not painting the whole elephant, just a portion, and by so doing I think it gives the portrait more intensity, as well as allowing you the opportunity to really nail the textures we are going to be working on!
That said, if you have your own photo you’d love to work from, you’re very welcome to — just run it past me first so I can make sure it will allow you to learn all the key techniques.
We don’t need to go too big with this portrait – somewhere around an A4-A3 size will be ample and actually it will be a popular size for selling too if you want to!
Spaces are limited — book now to reserve your place!
I can’t wait to see you there.
Lots of love!
